Check It Out

04 November 2011 / Jenny Green

The check shirt has undoubtedly been around for a while. It was sported in the fifties, modeled in the seventies and paraded in the nineties. Today, they are as popular as ever, but this time they are experiencing a slicker, more polished revival.

Far from the grungy silhouette often associated with the check shirt, today’s models are more slim-line to flatter the physique of the wearer. Lighter fabrics are best for layering, whilst details such as snap button fastenings give a nod to the blue-collar feeling.

As a rule, the checked shirt is one of those wardrobe staples that tends to go with most things, however, they generally tend to look best with simple, indigo, straight legged jeans so the look is relaxed, as opposed to unkempt.

Our Baracuta Zaragoza shirt in red is the epitome of smart casual and is perfect for any social occasion this season, whilst Original Penguin continue to be the go-to brand for shirts of all styles.

Other brands such as Luke 1977, Gabicci, and Aertex also have their fair share of checked designs which tick all the right boxes and will happily keep your style radar on the straight and narrow until the clocks go forward.
